Straight Talk… Understanding the Trinity, Rodna Epley

Rodna LightScripture reveals each member of the Trinity to a New Covenant believer in this same order. Jesus (Wisdom), the Holy Spirit (Revelation), then the Father (Knowledge of the Glory).

God is “One” because of His glory. It’s all the same glory. In the glory we too become one with Him.

John 17:5,22,23 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.

The glory is the very image that we are being transformed.

2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Trying to understand the Trinity apart from the glory is impossible. But knowledge of the Father, who is the Glory, makes understanding easy. So revelation of the Trinity comes in this way: wisdom, revelation, knowledge of Him.

John 4:23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

John 6:44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him…

So the Father searches (the world over?) for someone who will worship Him in spirit and truth, then draws that person to Jesus, revealing His Son to the hearer. Jesus said the Father is the only One who knows the Son. In Matthew 16:17b when it was revealed to Peter that Jesus was the Christ, Son of the living God, Jesus responded with, “…flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.”

So although the Father is always at work in the revelation of Himself to His creation, the knowledge of Him isn’t automatically revealed or understood. Jesus is revealed first, the Word, Wisdom from above. The Holy Spirit is revealed next…

John 16:13,14 when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me.

A personal relationship with the Holy Spirit begins.

The Father is the last to be revealed.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Matthew 11:27 …Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.

Jesus is the One who chooses when to reveal the Father. Revelation of the Father is having knowledge of the Glory. So God has chosen to reveal Himself to His creation using this same order: Wisdom, Revelation, Knowledge of the Glory.

Ephesians 1:15-20 Therefore I…do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places…
