February 20, 2018: East Damascus/Ghouta…Hundreds of civilians have been killed with the “extreme escalation” in bombing. The United Nations has claimed the situation is “spiraling out of control”. This is a developing story.

A couple of days ago, social media users were reporting increased troop activity in eastern Damascus. It turns out those reports were accurate.
Hospitals and civil services have been targeted.
Eastern Ghouta is home to approximately 400,000 residents. The area is occupied by rebels opposed to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Syrian rebel leader Nasr al-Hariri has called the hostilities “war crimes”.
Al-Assad government officials state they only target military sites.
