The Great Divide

Author: Guy Micholic

Our nation has certainly endured many transitions of power in its brief history, but few of them as drastic in contrast as our last. This politically charged atmosphere is serving to widen the chasm between opposing ideologies that shape our collective culture. This clash of belief systems has manifested itself in the form of culture shock, the likes of which this country has ever seen. Dare I be bold enough to declare that these manifestations are demonic in some cases? Example: What would possess a well known celebrity to make such an incendiary proclamation as contemplating blowing up the White House? In my opinion this celebrity, whom I need not name, has manifested an unclean spirit which has grown bolder throughout her career, but her latest outburst has gone beyond the realm of what should be tolerated in our society.

Jude 1

[11] Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
[12] These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
[13] Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
[14] And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
[15] To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
[16] These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.
[17] But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
[18] How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
[19] These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
[20] But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
[21] Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
[22] And of some have compassion, making a difference:
[23] And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
[24] Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
[25] To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

The divide in which I speak of is not limited to culture, not just a contrast in lifestyle choices. It is the beginning of a spiritual separation, physically manifesting itself within the human species. Akin to an inversion of values, where right becomes wrong and light becomes darkness. Those susceptible to this uncanny phenomenon are being rendered void of true logic and reason. It is being replaced with a tendency toward mindless aggression, perhaps sparked by autosuggestion. Our logical thinking wants to be able to understand, categorize and create a solution to stem this destructive force within our own ranks. We hope that sanity can be reinstated as a driving force within our society. For too long now a tolerance for ever diminishing lines between absolutes has eroded our ability to fight back evil forces.

Isaiah 5

20] Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
[21] Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
[22] Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:
[23] Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

Churches of every type have compromised themselves and been weakened to some degree. This is not entirely the fault of leadership, the congregations themselves have let their guard down for the sake of political correctness. Little by little the enemy has strengthened his borders and now actively strives to expand them. Church leaders have been pressured by society, as well as governmental oversight, to aid and assist in watering down the absolutes that were established by an “All Powerful God”. As a result, the moral fiber of society itself has become weak and vulnerable to the enemy’s attack. Recently, there has been an awakening of sorts, and collective prayer and repentance has brought about some changes for the good. But this is just the beginning of what needs to be done in order to assure the continued blessings of God.

Revelation 3

[14] And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
[15] I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
[16] So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
[17] Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
[18] I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
[19] As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
[20] Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
[21] To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
[22] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Regardless of what you believe on this subject, I venture that you would agree that we are experiencing unprecedented turmoil within our nation’s borders. Some see it as “Nationalism vs. Globalism”, or “Capitalism vrs. Socialism”, there are many ways that this divide can be described with some accuracy. Our new President has inspired some fresh optimism in me, but it is tempered with the awareness of evil rising at an accelerated pace. Is it possible that the beginning of difference between the “wheat and chaff” could be used as an analogy?

I am both thrilled and apprehensive over the realm of possibilities that exist in our current environment. Hope is strong within me, a hope for outpouring of the Holy Spirit in greater measure than our world has seen thus far. An empowering of the saints is what I truly long for, a manifestation of the Glory of The Living God.

In closing I would like to express a desire for the diminishing of divide between believers. The demands put on us by the world should not be weighing us down, shackling us to this place. Our future is within the Kingdom of God, this is where our focus should be. Let us stop letting the concerns of this world cause a “great divide” within our global congregation.
